Blair's Unfailing Touch Strikes agains.

Wanker BalirYesterday Uk Prime Minister Blair signalled his support for a European "directive" mandating all EU countries provide 20% of their energy from renewables, wind, solar and so on. This is up from 10%, the current UK target. The initiative will likely be pushed through despite opposition from Poland, amongst others, as the big three are now behind it - France, Germany & Blair's government.

Your author thinks there never has been a British Prime Minister with such a surety and consistency of touch as Blair. Everything he touches turns to disaster, and this brain storm is the latest in a series of utter shambolic "reforms" that began with his return to power in 1997. Pensions, the Dome, the scandalous state of the NHS despite it's chewing through huge sums.  I shall not go on, for there is insufficient capacity in the entire internet to list all the cock-ups of Blair's government.

It beggars belief that Blair can be so incompetent, refuses to learn from his mistakes yet still maintains such arrogance. The only conclusion your author can come to is that Blair is an evil megalomaniac bent on imposing his will on others.

Blair also signalled he wants to change the planning system to make it easier for large scale wind power stations to be approved. See what I mean about evil megalomaniac?  Where is the debate? Where is the local consensus?  Local democratic control of our own communities is being eroded yet again.

But the most telling question is this. Why, out of all the renewable energy sources including solar, wave, fuel cells etc, is Blair singling out onshore wind power stations for so much help?  Ofgem recently reported Blair's system of renewable obligation certificates provided "excessive profits" to renewable energy companies at the expense of the public. There is a feeding frenzy centred on large scale wind power stations, and Blair is increasing its intensity.

It will be interesting to see which companies offer Blair a seat on the board after he leaves office. We can only hope the Met arrest him and bang him up over the "cash for honours" scandal before he can do any more damage.
